Four Points by Sheraton

"Designing spaces for the way we live today and tomorrow."

The refurbishment of Four Points by Sheraton – Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) represents a strategic initiative to enhance one of Kuala Lumpur’s prominent hospitality destinations. Located along Jalan Ampang within the prestigious KLCC district, the project was commissioned by Ventura International Sdn Bhd to improve guest experience and operational efficiency. Covering approximately 70,000 square feet, the project carries a contract value of RM 38,210,336.85, reflecting its scale and premium quality expectations. The refurbishment focuses on upgrading major guest areas including the main lobby, dining outlets, public amenities, and multifunctional event facilities. Designed by internationally recognised consultant HBA Singapore, the project aims to modernise the hotel environment while maintaining brand consistency and reinforcing its position as a competitive hospitality destination within Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant city centre.

The interior design concept emphasises a balance between contemporary elegance and warm hospitality character. Developed by HBA Singapore, the design introduces modern architectural elements combined with timeless materials to create an inviting and refined environment.

Spatial openness allows natural light to enhance public areas while improving guest circulation throughout the hotel. Finishes such as engineered stone, decorative metal accents, and textured wall panels are complemented by warm timber tones to create a harmonious atmosphere.

Subtle Malaysian cultural influences are integrated through artwork and decorative detailing, providing local identity while maintaining global brand standards. Carefully planned lighting enhances ambience through layered illumination and feature lighting, while integrated technology improves operational efficiency and guest comfort.

  1. The refurbishment works involve a comprehensive interior upgrading programme covering multiple guest and operational areas. The scope includes renovation of the Hotel Main Lobby, All-Day Dining Restaurant, Lift Lobbies, Public Toilets, Surau, Chinese Restaurant, Multi-Function Rooms, Meeting Rooms, and Back-of-House facilities including staff changing rooms and canteen areas.

Project Vision & Interpretation

Q:When you first received the refurbishment brief for Four Points by Sheraton KL, what was the core vision you understood the hotel wanted to achieve?
A:The core vision was to modernise the hotel into a clean, contemporary, practical, and brand-aligned Four Points property that delivers better comfort and efficiency for guests while strengthening the hotel’s competitiveness in the KL market. Our role as contractor would be to execute this vision with precision, ensuring the built environment delivered on this brand promise and business objective.

Scope & Complexity

Q:This refurbishment covered a huge range of areas— main lobby, all-day dining, lift lobbies, public toilets, surau, restaurants, meeting rooms, kitchen, and back of-house. Which spaces were the most complex to execute, and why?

A:The kitchen—this is the most technically complex area. It involves specialized MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems: high-capacity ventilation (hoods), gas lines, complex drainage with grease traps, high-voltage electrical for equipment, specialised refrigeration and waterproofing work. Coordinating with kitchen equipment consultant, kitchen contractor and chefs is very important to ensure the work done as per requirement and design.

Q:With so many different functions under one scope, how did your team ensure seamless continuity in design language and quality?
A:We ensured seamless continuity in design and quality by establishing a clear, unified set of design standards at the start—material finishes, joinery details, and shop drawings. These standards were supported by mock-ups, sample reviews, and a detailed material matrix used across all spaces. Close coordination with the interior designer and M&E consultants were maintained through regular technical workshops, ensuring that any design refinements were carried through consistently to every area. A dedicated quality control team monitored workmanship across all trades, while careful sequencing ensured smooth transitions between spaces. This structured approach allowed us to maintain a consistent design language and high-quality finish throughout the entire refurbishment.

Construction & Technical Challenges

Q:Refurbishment projects often come with hidden conditions. What were the biggest surprises or constraints encountered on site?
A:Unexpected MEP services behind walls & above ceilings, and the structural limitations and undocumented beams/columns while the demolition work was ongoing.
